A Renfrewshire town hall is to get a £1.6m refurbishment and be made more wheelchair-accessible.
The work at Paisley Town Hall will be completed in time for it to host next year’s Royal National Mod.
The festival of Gaelic culture will be held in the nineteenth-century building for the first time in October 2013.
Central Building Contractors (Glasgow) Ltd won the contract from Renfrewshire Council to repair the hall’s damaged stonework as well as undertaking internal changes.
The refurbishment will bring with it several new jobs and work placements for 16- to 19- year-olds and means two existing apprenticeships will be continues.
Renfrewshire councillor Iain McMillan told the BBC programmes like this were important.
He said: "The Victorians gifted us an amazing architectural legacy. This refurbishment programme gives us an opportunity to create jobs and training places while also making one of our top entertainment venues much more accessible for people with disabilities. It's important to use investment in our architectural heritage to take forward economic regeneration and this programme achieves that aim."
