The Embassy of Brazil in London and Aberdeen City Council will host a seminar that aims to assist international educational and training centres in the oil & gas offshore and maritime sectors that are seeking investment and cooperation opportunities in Brazil.
The event - III BRAZIL-UK Oil & Gas Meeting: Co-Operation in Human Resources & Skills Development will be held from 9am until 12.45pm on Thursday 10 May at the Town House, Broad Street, Aberdeen.
Brazilian and British government officials, together with industry experts, will offer cutting-edge industry updates and relevant information regarding investment opportunities in Brazil.
The seminar is sponsored by the Ministry of External Relations of Brazil and the BG Group with support from Petrobras S.A. and the Brazilian National Organization for the Oil & Gas Industry - ONIP. A networking lunch and a corporate 'matchmaking session' will follow the seminar.
The event is free of charge but places are limited.
Brazil is an exciting, fast-growing new frontier for the offshore industry. Major oil and gas industry players such as BP, BG, Shell and Statoil are investing heavily both in downstream and upstream sectors in Brazil and demand for qualified workers in the country is rocketing. It is expected that the Petrobras Petrochemical Refinery Complex (COMPERJ), due to come into operation in 2013, will generate over 50,000 jobs once it is on stream.
Gordon McIntosh, Director of Enterprise, Planning and Infrastructure at Aberdeen City Council, said: "With a predominantly young population of almost 200 million, Brazil clearly offers enormous opportunities for training and educational companies.
"The seminar will enable interested parties to meet with government officials from Brazil and the UK, together with industry experts, so they can find out more about the business opportunities in Brazil."
