Keeping Fitness On Track At Inverleith Park

Edinburgh resident and former Scotland rugby star Scott Hastings officially opened Inverleith Park’s new fitness trail, Tuesday 24th April, at a special ceremony.

Funded by the City of Edinburgh Council, wooden fitness equipment has been installed in ten stations around the perimeter of the north side of the park.

Fitness enthusiasts will be able to complete a circuit of the park whilst tackling bench sit-ups, the tyre run and wobble board among others.

The park is used by a number of sports clubs, fitness groups and a vast array of individual users, particularly joggers.

The Council, along with the Friends of Inverleith Park and other user groups, decided that a fitness trail would improve the facilities and equipment for users of the park wanting to exercise.

Installation was completed at the end of March and since then the fitness trail has been used widely with lots of positive feedback.

Councillor Robert Aldridge, Vice-Convenor of the Transport, Infrastructure and Environment Committee, said: "Inverleith Park is one of the city's most treasured outdoor spaces and now, with this new fitness trail, we can help future generations of park users to stay fit and healthy.

"This has been a real community initiative and the Friends of Inverleith Park and other user groups have been involved every step of the way. The positive reaction we have had from users of the trail in the last few weeks has shown that this will undoubtedly be a popular feature of the park for years to come."

Scott Hastings said: "As a local resident and regular 'jogger' in the park I am very impressed with the fitness trail. I am amazed at the number of people who have been using it to boost their exercise. I have had a bit of fun using the exercise stations as a break from my regular running route!

"Inverleith Park is a fantastic space and this 'fitness track' enhances the amount of things that one can do whilst admiring the wonderful views across our great city."
