The opening of Primark at The Centre, Livingston, proved to be one of the most successful in Scotland with 10,000 visiting on its first day.
More than 800 eager shoppers from Edinburgh and the Lothians queued to get into the top discount retailer’s latest store which was the first Primark to open in the area. Over the course of the day thousands more visited the impressive 49,100 sq ft store.
A Spokeswoman for Primark added: "The Primark store in Livingston is proving very popular with visitors to The Centre. We are delighted with the response and are thrilled to be offering shoppers in the area quality fashion at an affordable price."
Opening well ahead of schedule, the new three storey Primark increases total floor space at The Centre, which is one of Land Securities’ top shopping destinations, to more than one million sq ft.
Land Securities is delighted to welcome the new addition which considerably expands the retail offer at The Centre, giving customers even more variety.
Katherine Armstead, Land Securities’ portfolio manager for Scotland, said: "The opening of Primark at The Centre has been extremely successful with thousands of shoppers visiting on the first day.
"Just walking around you can feel the buzz. Primark adds to the already excellent shopping choice on offer which includes 155 stores and catering outlets and is a sign of the continued confidence in our Livingston shopping destination.
"Feedback shows that due to its location, within easy reach of Glasgow and Edinburgh, the new Primark is already appealing to shoppers in the nearby area as well as further afield."
Interest in working for the leading fashion brand was extremely high with 2264 applicants going for the 227 available jobs. The intake included 38 employees who are working for the first time and 51 who were unemployed before taking up a position at The Centre.
Shoppers have been coming in their droves to the new store, with staff noting men and women’s sleepsuits as well as kids’ party-wear amongst the best sellers. Gearing up for the winter has also been on many customers’ minds with ladies’ quilted jackets and long puffa jackets, as well as men’s knitwear going down a storm.
Having undergone an extensive £130 million redevelopment programme in recent years The Centre is now firmly positioned as one of Scotland’s leading retail destinations.
The arrival of the top fashion brand is the latest in a line of popular outlets such as Topshop, Superdry, Marks & Spencer and Debenhams to open at The Centre, reinforcing its strong retail choice.
