Royal Opening Of The Riverside Museum

The Princess Royal will perform the Royal Opening of the Riverside Museum in Glasgow on Friday, 11 November 2011.

A spokesman for Glasgow Life, which runs the museum on behalf of Glasgow City Council, said: “The museum has been a tremendous success and we look forward to welcoming Princess Anne to give this world class attraction the Royal seal of approval.

“As with every royal visit, there will be some disruption and we would urge visitors to consider a trip to the nearby Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum or postpone their trip to Riverside until after 3pm.”

Kelvingrove is currently rocking to the sounds of one of the biggest bands in the world with AC/DC: Scotland's Family Jewels. This is the only exhibition to be approved by the band and features rare materials and live footage from their incredible 37-year career.

There's also the recently opened Glasgow Boys Gallery, which is a beautiful and lasting legacy of the hugely successful 2010 exhibition Pioneering Painters: The Glasgow Boys 1880-1900.

In the most comprehensive display ever of Glasgow Museums' collection by the Boys, you can see works by all the major figures including Guthrie, Hornel, Henry and Walton. Featured paintings include favourites such as Henry and Hornel's The Druids - Bringing in the Mistletoe and Guthrie's Old Willie - the Village Worthy.
