University of Strathclyde Opens In India

Scotland's Education Minister Michael Russell MSP will formally open the University of Strathclyde's first overseas campus today during his visit to India.

The Greater Noida campus, which is being developed by Strathclyde's internationally renowned business school and infrastructure company SKIL, will deliver undergraduate, postgraduate and MBA level courses.

SKIL has provided the campus infrastructure including a library, IT and teaching support systems. Mr Russell will view the architectural plans for future development, which include additional teaching space, sports facilities and student accommodation. It is hoped that the collaboration will develop in the future to see a wider range of subjects, including engineering, being taught at the campus.

Welcoming the new campus, Mr Russell said: "That is why I am delighted to be here today, and to welcome the first students to study at this prestigious new campus in Greater Noida. We know there is a growing demand for high quality higher education in India and I am proud that Scotland is working hand in hand with Indian partners to help deliver the knowledge and skills needed to power economic growth at home and abroad."

Mr JP Rai, Group CEO of SKIL, said: "We are honoured to have Scotland's Education Minister, Mr Michael Russell MSP, in our midst today, and view that as evidence of Scotland's commitment to further strengthen the partnership that the SKIL Group has forged with the University of Strathclyde. Our students will benefit from the academic and research excellence of the University of Strathclyde and the successful corporate strategies of the SKIL Group in India.

"India's need for trained and skilled manpower is only going to increase over the next decades, and we believe that the partnership that we have established will over the years expand to cover other disciplines as well as geographies.

"Mr Russell's visit shows in no uncertain terms that our efforts will be very ably supported by the Scottish Government, and we are delighted with this development."
