Sandness Hall has officially re-opened after the completion of its upgrade.

The Hall Committee, planning process and raising funds, closed the hall for the last six months to undergo renovations, which were the culmination of nearly 10 years of work.

The improvements include a new fully accessible entrance, upgraded toilets and the provision of a meeting space/clubroom area.

Electrics and plumbing have also been completely replaced, and the hall itself redecorated.

The total cost of the refurbishment was approximately £169,000.

A Capital Grant of £21,280 was contributed by the council, while the feasibility and design costs were partly funded by the SIC.

With the support of the Grants Unit and Community Work service, The Hall committee were successful in securing external funding of over £144,000 from the Scottish Rural Development Programme with the balance of funds raised by the local community.

Hall Committee Chairman, Donald MacLeod has welcomed the much-needed improvements, commenting: "I am delighted with the outcome, the building was so cold before you could see your breath in the air, but that's a distant memory now.

"It's a much better use of the space. I am looking forward to celebrating the re-opening and making use of the upgraded hall."
