Work has commenced on a state-of-the-art 300,000 tonne energy recovery facility for waste management company Veolia Environmental Services.
Clugston Construction is carrying out the work along with technology partner CNIM.
The facility is being developed at a site in Four Ashes, South Staffordshire, and is part of the council’s commitments to divert waste away from landfill and deliver up to £250m of savings for residents over the next 25 years.
The operation will generate enough energy to power 32,000 homes from the residual waste left over after recycling has been undertaken.
Clugston Group chief executive, Stephen Martin, said: "This is a really exciting project to be involved with, one of the most challenging and exciting projects of its kind in the UK today.
"We are really looking forward to working on the facility with our technology partner CNIM and our local supply chain. It will bring real benefits in terms of both jobs and boosting the county’s economy."
