The story of the £1billion investment in Glasgow’s social housing is proving a big hit with visitors across the world.
Glasgow Housing Association’s Big Red Truck mobile exhibition has been on tour all over the city since May.
The interactive exhibition features plasma screens with videos of demolitions and new-builds and interviews with people about the impact GHA’s £1billion investment programme has had on communities.
The Big Red Truck stars tenants speaking about the improvements to their homes, and their lives, and how they have been a driving force in helping change the face of Glasgow for the better since GHA took over the city’s housing stock in 2003.
Tenants have been at the centre of the transformation through GHA’s tenant led Board, Local Housing Organisation committees and other tenant participation forums.
Around 2,500 visitors have already been aboard the truck at 24 venues so far, including the West End Festival, the Glasgow Show and various schools and local fun days.
Last weekend, the Big Red Truck was at Glasgow Green as part of the World Pipe Band Championship. More than 40,000 visitors from as far as Australia took in the action.
Visitors from the USA, Pakistan and Germany took a break from the pipe band music to spend time on the GHA truck.
GHA’s Partnership Manager Heather Voisey said: "The feedback we’ve had from visitors has been fantastic. The exhibition has not only grabbed the attention of Glaswegians – we’ve had people from all over the world taking a real interest in the story of the £1billion investment in homes.
"We’ve had people of all ages on the truck who are keen to learn more about the regeneration of Glasgow and watch the videos of our new-builds and demolitions."
Visitors to the truck have commented: "It was very educational. It shows you how much GHA loves Scotland. You should keep doing this. I loved it" - Kaitlin MacKie from Lochgelly, Fife.
"It makes it fun for younger people to learn about GHA. You can pick up on how GHA is helping Glasgow' - Phoebe Irving, Stranraer.
"I was impressed with all the information available, not only in my area, but Glasgow as a whole. GHA is doing a magnificent job bringing Glasgow into the present. Long may it continue" - Elizabeth Maxwell, Gorbals.
The Big Red Truck exhibition runs until December. The truck will then be turned into a mobile GHA unit which will take services such as welfare benefits, fuel advice, health and safety fairs and home contents insurance directly into neighbourhoods.
The mobile exhibition has been part financed by a number of GHA contractors.
