City Building Completes 27 New Anniesland Flats

City Building – Glasgow City Council’s arm’s-length construction company – has built 27 contemporary flats in Netherton Road, Anniesland.

The development – which has been built for Sanctuary Scotland Housing Association – includes 24 two-bed and three three-bed units ranging from 68 to 88 square metres.

The properties will be allocated to GHA tenants whose homes have been earmarked for demolition as part of plans for the regeneration of the community. The former Westpoint Homes project was originally planned for outright sale, but was bought over by Sanctuary Scotland in 2008 when the housing market collapsed.

The 11-month project was completed in two phases with City Building acting as a sub-contractor on the initial stage and main contractor on the final phase.

Each of the flats feature contemporary decoration and fittings with quality bathrooms and kitchens built by Royal Strathclyde Blindcraft Industries (RSBi), one of the most successful supported employment facilities in Europe.

The flats include: generous living space for the modern family; large windows allowing for plenty of natural light; landscaped gardens; and easy access to Glasgow city centre.

Willie Docherty, managing director of City Building, said: “This project will deliver new high quality accommodation for up to 57 residents and we are confident the tenants will enjoy their new homes.

“The new Anniesland flats continue City Building’s strong track record in providing work on time, on budget and to the highest possible standards with the best in contemporary design and modern fittings.”

Gordon Laurie, Sanctuary Scotland director, said: “The Anniesland accommodation has been carefully designed to suit the needs of today’s families and we are pleased that these new quality flats are now available to tenants.”

City Building is one of Scotland’s largest construction companies and delivers training for 500 construction trade apprentices. With turnover of almost £200 million, City Building was established in 2006 from the former Building Services Department of Glasgow City Council.

City Building has delivered more than £28 million in cash surplus over the last five years, which is passed to Glasgow City Council for investment in frontline services.
