Improvement And Adaptation Grants Help Angus Residents

Angus Council has approved £343,738 in housing improvement and repair grants for the current financial year.

Repairs and improvements under the Private Sector Housing Grant scheme allow home owners to make necessary adaptations to their property, or to do essential works such as window or gutter repairs. Town centre refurbishment grants are also available.

Much of this work is undertaken by Angus Care and Repair, with funding from Angus Council.

The council’s Neighbourhood Services committee heard at their meeting yesterday ,Thursday 18 November, that as from this financial year, the grant for such works is no longer ring-fenced, but is included as part of the overall financial settlement from the Scottish Government.

Changes to the regulations mean that 60% or more of the spend must be used to fund capital projects, with the remainder of the money being used for revenue items, such staff costs.

Housing convener Jim Millar said: “It is very important that people are able to remain in their own homes and communities, particularly as they become older.

“We are committed to helping eligible people to stay in their own homes wherever possible. Often some relatively small adaptation or repair to the house can make a significant difference to the owner’s well-being.”
