Councillor David May, convener of Angus Council’s Infrastructure Services Committee, visited Wellbank Village Shop on Wednesday to view work completed with a grant from Angus Council under the Rural Shops and Community Post Office Conversion grant scheme.

Ms Linda Stott, owner of the shop, applied for grant for internal improvements which included the removal of outdated confectionery counter, shortening of and improvements to the sales counter, including new part height door and perspex screen. Other work included the installation of a free standing modular shelving unit and alterations to floor coverings.

Said councillor May: "The Post Office operation within this shop scaled down in 2008, and the owner is now trying to maximise the floorspace in the shop to provide as many goods as possible for the benefit of the community and the wider rural area."

He added: “Small shops such as this one at Wellbank, where the shop is open for 12 months of the year and is more than three miles from the nearest town, provide an important service to the local community.”
