Scottish Borders Council has awarded the contract for work on Nell Logan’s Bridge, near Preston, to Rodger (Builders) Ltd from Earlston.

Work is due to begin on Monday 23 August and is expected to take 16 weeks.

Due to the nature of the work and the restricted road width, the bridge will be closed to all traffic during this time. A suitable diversion route will be set up and clearly signposted.

Iain Williams, Senior Technician, Bridge Maintenance, said: "We have notified local residents, community councils and local councillors and made them aware of the works and need for the road closure. We appreciate the patience of road users while these refurbishment works are carried out."

Jim Fullarton, Executive Member for Roads and Infrastructure, said: "This work forms part of our Capital Works Programme for bridge maintenance and we are delighted that Rodger (Builders) Ltd will be starting the work on 23 August."
