A programme of improvements to enhance Monifieth town centre will begin next week.

The work will include new pedestrian crossings, a combination of soft and hard landscaping, tree planting, and the installation of new street furniture.

The footways are to be widened at various points along the High Street to form landscaped seating areas; trees will be planted along the south side of the street; the existing pedestrian crossing will be relocated towards the Union Street/High Street junction; new traffic signals with pedestrian crossings will be installed at the Reform Street/High Street junction and a pedestrian refuge island will be created at the entrance to the Tesco car park.

The contract for the enhancement works in the town centre has been awarded to Land & Building Services Ltd. Works will start on site next week and run for 15 weeks to 30 September, with a two week break during the Dundee fortnight.

Last October, Angus Council formally approved a £300,000 package of enhancements for Monifieth.

The community council and local area partnership have been involved in the final selection of the street furniture to be installed and the Monifieth History Society will assist with the interpretation of the history of the burgh for inclusion in an information board to be provided at one of the seating areas.
