Montrose promenade has been fully re-opened following scrutiny by Angus Council engineers of the results of a recent geophysical survey.

Earlier this year, storms caused damage to the promenade, when the William Lamb statue The Minesweeper was toppled and parts of the esplanade collapsed. Following remedial work, which included the reinstatement of the statue, promenade and sea wall, a detailed geophysical survey of the area was undertaken.

The specialist survey showed some small voids beneath the promenade. These will be subject to future monitoring and review, but based on their current size and extent are not considered to be significant. The area is therefore considered safe for use and was re-opened to the public by this weekend in time for the busy summer period.
