North Ayrshire Trading Standards is urging local homeowners to take advantage of a nationwide boiler scrappage scheme.

People across North Ayrshire could claim £400 cash back against the cost of a replacement boiler as part of the Energy Saving Trust's voucher scheme.

Starting on Monday, May 24, the scheme |allows 5,000 homeowners to claim a voucher that can be redeemed against the cost of a new boiler.

But vouchers are limited and local homeowners are being encouraged to act quickly.

Andy Dunn, Consumer Advice Co-ordinator for North Ayrshire Trading Standards, said: "Local people need to apply online or call 0800 512 012 as soon as the scheme is launched as the vouchers will be issued on a first come, first served basis.

"If successful, homeowners need to arrange for a new boiler to be installed within twelve weeks and once the work is completed and paid for, they claim £400 back by sending the voucher and invoice to Energy Saving Trust."
