The new Janet Brougham House, a residential home for 24 older people, was awarded a finalist's certificate in the dementia design innovation category at the national Dementia Awards.
Held at York Racecourse earlier this week the awards are an annual celebration of innovation and good practice. The dementia design innovation award was given for the dementia-friendly design of a communal or individual setting used by people with the condition.

Designed by Dundee City Council's architects in conjunction with the social work department's property co-ordinator Janet Brougham House draws on in-house experience as well as applying the design principles of the Dementia Services Development Centre at Stirling University.
Convener of Dundee City Council's social work and health committee Jim Barrie said: "While it is always nice to get external recognition from outside bodies the main reason we have taken such care in the design of Janet Brougham House is to ensure that the older people who live there have the best and most appropriate environment in which to spend their time."
The role of the city development property co-ordinator (social work) in specifying new builds and refurbishments is unique in Scotland and helps keep the city's provision at the forefront of appropriate design.
