Around 14,000 homes in the Montrose and Brechin areas of Angus will benefit from a major programme of insulation.

The Home Insulation Scheme and the Energy Assistance Package from the Scottish Government could mean a £2m investment for the Angus economy through employment and construction industry work.

Angus Council Neighbourhood Services convener, Jim Millar said: "We are very pleased that homes in Brechin and Montrose will benefit from this new initiative to reduce fuel bills and improve the warmth of homes in both the public and private sector.

"We have been working hard for several years to deal with the issue of fuel poverty, and to reduce domestic greenhouse gas emissions.

"In recent years we have invested heavily to insulate our own housing stock, but there is still scope for improvement, especially in improving carbon reduction in the private sector."

As of March this year, Angus Council housing stock is 989 in Brechin and 1320 in Montrose, totalling 2309.

Of the remaining 14000 houses in the Brechin and Montrose grant target areas, 11691 are in the private or housing association sectors.

Members of the Neighbourhood Services committee will hear details of the new schemes when they meet on August 20.
