Sainsbury's has appointed Kier to build its largest new supermarket in Scotland at Braehead, near Glasgow.

The 100,000sq ft store is being built on a single level with a 75,000sq ft sales floor that will be 60% grocery and 40% non-food. Kier Scotland will deliver the project in 19 weeks with the new store due to open in November 2009, in advance of peak Christmas trading.

Kier has worked closely with both Sainsbury's and the Braehead Shopping Centre management team in order to programme and phase the project in a way that ensures minimum disruption and inconvenience is caused to the customers of the adjoining shopping centre.

The Braehead contract represents another major project to be undertaken by Kier for Sainsbury's and follows the recent highly successful opening of the Gloucester Quays new store in June.
