Martin Johnson has been appointed manager with Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) for the Inner Moray Firth area.

He will take up the post in mid August, following the appointment of current manager James Gibbs to a senior post with UHI, the prospective University of the Highlands and Island.

A native of Shetland, Martin joined the agency in 1992 and moves to the role from his position as area manager for HIE in Moray. Prior to this he was seconded to Scottish Development International in Glasgow, working to attract inward investment into Scotland.

Martin said: "The Inner Moray Firth area covers one of the most dynamic local economies in the UK and I am delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to its continued success."

Welcoming Martin to the post, William Roe, HIE chair said: "I am extremely pleased we were able to appoint someone of Martin's calibre to this important job. At a time of particular challenge and opportunity he will be making a real contribution to the ambitions of businesses and communities in an area of considerable importance to the region's economy."
