Community work in Monifieth is to receive a boost with the announcement that Angus Council is to develop state of the art facilities for use by all age groups at Monifieth High School.
The new community wing will replace the current community learning and development offices at Grange Primary School and the 4Real Centre - both of which are no longer fit for purpose.
To ensure that the work of the service continues to meet the demands from the community, and in particular from young people, a meeting of the council's Education Committee agreed to invest in the £665,000 project at its meeting on Thursday 23 April.
In addition to community use, the new extension, which will feature offices, venue space, a café, music recording facilities and toilets, will be available to the school for use at lunchtime as well as for curriculum activities.
Welcoming the development, Committee Convener Peter Nield said: "The community learning and development service has been successfully working with the local community, and in particular young people, for a number of years.
"The relocation of the service to purpose built accommodation at the high school will allow this work to continue and be extended, offering a number of advantages for the school and the wider community.
"The new community wing will significant enhance facilities for pupils, young people and the wider Monifieth community and will be developed in consultation with local people."
The committee heard that finance for the project would include a portion of the sale of the part of the Seaview site as agreed by the council in December last year.
