The Highland Council is holding a Credit Crunch seminar next week to see what can be done to stimulate the housing market locally and ensure that the Council meets its target for the provision of new private and affordable housing.

The seminar will take place at the Lochardil Hotel, Inverness, on Wednesday 29 October and the Council has invited leading developers, financial institutions, Scottish Government officials and other housing stake holders to join them to discuss the current issues and identify how these can be tackled to create long term sustainability in the market.

The delegates will be examining potential models of funding and housing products which could stimulate the Highland housing market and give confidence to the investor and consumer.

Councillor Margaret Davidson, Chairman of the Council's Housing and Social Work Committee, said: "The Credit Crunch is now having a major impact on the delivery of new housing in the Highlands.

"The Highland Council is committed to working with its partners (both public and private) to ensure that new housing continues to be developed to sustain the economic growth of the Highlands. This is an extremely challenging issue for the Highlands and we need to work together to plot a way forward."
