An interim project director for the Forth Replacement Crossing has been appointed by Transport Scotland.
John Howison has 40 years professional experience and is a former Chief Road Engineer with the Scottish Executive and latterly a Director of Transport Scotland until last year.
He has since worked on a range of rail infrastructure and procurement projects. He will manage the project team until a permanent appointment is made which expected in the new year.
Work is currently underway on ground and marine investigations for the project with options for the preferred alignment and road connections for the bridge and the funding and legislative requirements expected later this year.
Mr Howison said: "I am delighted to be asked to lead this world-class team as it takes forward this critical project in its crucial formative stages."
Transport Scotland Chief Executive, Malcolm Reed said: "This is a significant project which requires substantial experience and I am pleased John has agreed to lead the team during the development phase as the search for a permanent project director is carried out."
