£285m Improvement Scheme For West Lothian

West Lothian Council is planning an ambitious £285m spending programme over the next five years.

The Council Executive has approved a revised capital budget for 2008-2013, including expenditure totalling £96.4m in the current financial year.

Council Leader Peter Johnston said: "Communities across West Lothian will benefit greatly from our new, improved programme.

"We are allocating additional resources and pledging investment in a wide range of projects.

"This is the biggest ever community investment in West Lothian. It clearly underlines our commitment to deliver better council services and provide improved facilities across West Lothian."

The new five-year programme includes £90m to be spent on general education projects, £9.7m on primary school improvements, £2.2m on secondary school improvements and £800,000 on libraries and nursery schools.

A further £47.5m has been earmarked for roads, structures, lighting and infrastructure improvements, while £2.5m will go towards traditional town centre improvements.
