Glenn Allison has taken office as the new President of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS).
Glenn, Managing Director of Stewart Milne Group, one of the UK's leading privately owned house builders, officially took up the Presidency at the Institute's Annual General Meeting held in Glasgow today. He succeeds Isobel Sharp, Technical Partner of Deloitte & Touche LLP London.
The new President is supported by Senior Vice President Douglas Nisbet, a Partner in Ernst & Young LLP and Junior Vice President, Alan Thomson, former Group Finance Director of Smiths Group plc and a non-executive Director of Johnson Matthey plc, Alstom SA and Crossmatch Technologies Inc. Each President serves a one-year term.
Speaking at the AGM the new President said: "To be a CA is to be a professional. Everything that ICAS does must support and equip our members to continue to act with unrivalled professionalism, whether they are in business or in practice. As a CA running a substantial business, I am acutely aware that the role of accountants can be sometimes dismissed as 'just dealing with the numbers'.
"It's important that the wider business community and the public realise that many CAs are business leaders - responsible for setting and achieving the strategic goals of leading organisations."
