A learning session on Tuesday 8 December 2026, 10:00–11:30am, will examine how Community Wealth Building (CWB) can help deliver a national commitment to Scotland's towns and drive inclusive growth.
CWB is an economic development approach designed to create local jobs, support a diverse business base and keep wealth circulating within communities so it is locally owned and benefits local people.
Now underpinned by The Community Wealth Building (Scotland) Act 2026, the approach focuses on retaining wealth locally, strengthening local supply chains, increasing community ownership and ensuring investment provides long-term social and economic value. In doing so, towns can build more inclusive and sustainable local economies.
Building on a practical workshop at Scotland's Towns Conference, the session will look at applying CWB to town planning and regeneration through the Town Centre First Principle. Delegates will hear from organisations across Scotland sharing real examples of how local ownership, procurement, partnership working and place-based decision-making are creating stronger economies and more resilient communities.
Attendees will be able to reflect on their own local plans, learn from peers and identify practical actions to implement in their towns. Programme to be announced.
