A 50-bedroom luxury care home on the grounds of Greenbank Parish Church in Clarkston is advancing, with the first elements of the superstructure now visible along Eaglesham Road ahead of an expected opening next year.
The facility is being delivered by CCG (Scotland) for Morrison Community Care Group through a joint venture that has created more than 500 bed spaces for older people across Scotland over the past decade.
Site works began last summer, and the build is now becoming noticeable to passers-by as the frame rises.
CCG (Scotland) Managing Director, David Wylie, said: "I am delighted to see the progress made by our contract team, who have performed diligently in the face of challenges posed by how tightly constrained the site is and the steep gradient.
"Works to date have had to be strictly coordinated to minimise the impact of construction on the church itself and the surrounding community, and this will continue as the erection of the building's superstructure advances."
The project reflects Morrison Community Care Group's strategy of repurposing underutilised land to meet the needs of Clarkston's growing older population, offering state-of-the-art, round-the-clock residential, nursing and dementia care.
Proceeds from the land sale are also providing a legacy for the church, helping to fund major renovations of parish buildings and the creation of a new community facility.
On opening, residents will have private en-suite bedrooms and access to amenities including a cinema room, hair salon and freshly prepared meals from professionally trained chefs.
Family and friends will be able to use a visitor café, champagne bar and celebration room, with quiet rooms available for private time with loved ones.
Paul Sokhi, Managing Director of Morrison Community Care Group, said: "The progress made onsite to date is tremendous, and I commend CCG, as well as our valued design team members Holmes Miller, Cowal Design, Design Me, and CRGP, for getting us to this stage.
"With the support of East Renfrewshire Council, early design collaboration and CCG's speed of delivery will ensure this much-needed development is completed quickly, bringing high-quality care provision to the Clarkston community sooner.
"Unfortunately, this approach is not being replicated widely enough across Scotland. As our population continues to age, demand for modern care accommodation is outstripping supply, while the number of care beds continues to decline.
"Our work at Greenbank demonstrates what can be achieved through partnership working, and I hope it places a greater sense of urgency on delivering the modern care facilities our communities urgently need."
