BEAR Scotland will begin the final phase of street-lighting refurbishment on the A9 through Golspie on Thursday 6 August, with weekday daytime works and short, rolling traffic management expected to continue until Friday 29 January 2027.

Acting on behalf of Transport Scotland, teams will work between 9am and 4:30pm, Monday to Friday. The project will replace the remaining 33 steel lighting columns and approximately 1,100 metres of underground ducting and cabling to improve the long-term reliability of the network.

As preparatory ducting was installed earlier this year, excavation within the newly resurfaced footway will be minimal. Traffic management will be set up in short sections to reduce disruption.

While most activity will take place on the footway, some phases and pedestrian diversions will require limited use of the carriageway. For safety, stop/go controls will operate, with temporary traffic lights used only when necessary. Barriers and designated crossing points will guide pedestrians safely around the works.

Access for emergency services and scheduled bus services will be maintained throughout. Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance regarding traffic management arrangements.

Replacement of the lighting columns, cabling and ducting will reduce maintenance needs and enable safe operation of the street lighting service for years to come.
