Clark Contracts has been named on the shortlist for three categories at the Learning Places Scotland Awards 2026, recognising its delivery of high-quality, inclusive and future-ready education environments across the country.
The business is competing for Contractor of the Year, while its refurbishment of the James Watt South Lecture Theatre at the University of Glasgow is a finalist for both the Pupil / Student Experience Award and Refurbishment of the Year.
The contractor has an established record in the education sector, completing refurbishment, fit-out and construction projects for schools, colleges and universities across Scotland. Its Contractor of the Year nomination reflects a collaborative approach with clients and partners to deliver inspiring, accessible and sustainable learning spaces.
The James Watt South Lecture Theatre scheme reimagined an existing area within the Category B listed James Watt South Building as a modern, accessible and high-performing teaching venue. The upgrade enhanced accessibility, acoustics, AV and lighting, and introduced energy-efficient systems and sustainable finishes to improve the experience for students and staff.
Clark Contracts delivered the project for the University of Glasgow, working with AtkinsRéalis, HLM Architects and Hoare Lea.
Gerry Cummins, Director, Clark Contracts, said: "We are delighted to be shortlisted for three awards at the Learning Places Scotland Awards 2026. This recognition reflects the hard work and collaboration of our teams, clients and supply chain partners, and our shared commitment to delivering high-quality learning environments that are accessible, sustainable and designed around the needs of students and staff."
"The refurbishment of the James Watt South Lecture Theatre is an excellent example of how existing education spaces can be sensitively upgraded to improve accessibility, comfort, technology and long-term performance, while respecting the character of an important university building. We look forward to attending the awards ceremony and celebrating the achievements of all those shortlisted."
The Learning Places Scotland Awards celebrate excellence across the education estate, recognising projects and organisations that are advancing innovative, inclusive and sustainable learning environments.
Winners are due to be announced at the awards ceremony in Glasgow on 3 November.
