Buchan Offshore Wind has appointed Kent as Owner's Engineer to support the project as it moves into its next phase of development, progressing towards Front End Engineering Design (FEED) and ultimately a Final Investment Decision (FID) and construction by the end of the decade.
The Owner's Engineer, supported by its Scotland-based team, will provide integrated technical and delivery expertise aimed at reducing project risk and strengthening overall execution capability. The appointment also includes specialist input from Vekta Group and New Power Partners, further enhancing the engineering support structure.
The near 1GW floating offshore wind project is being developed around 75 kilometres north-east of Fraserburgh and is positioned as a key step in the industrialisation of floating offshore wind in Scotland. Once operational, it is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than one million homes, contributing to the UK's long-term energy security.
The project is also intended to act as a pathfinder for commercial-scale floating offshore wind, helping to unlock Scotland’s engineering and supply chain capabilities. It is expected to support the development of the country’s first concrete floating foundations, using BW Ideol’s Damping Pool® technology, and to help establish a new domestic industrial base for the sector.
The appointment follows extensive market engagement for the role and represents a further milestone in the project's ongoing development across engineering, consenting, commercial strategy and delivery planning.
