Work to replace both lifts at one of Kent's busiest stations is continuing, with the car park, concourse and platforms 3 and 4 lift returning to service on Wednesday 24 June 2026 as renewal begins on the lift for platforms 1 and 2.
The programme, delivered by the South Eastern Railway as part of wider investment to improve accessibility and modernise station facilities, began in July 2025 and is due to complete by winter 2026.
With more than 3.1 million journeys made through Sevenoaks each year, the existing lifts had become increasingly unreliable. The upgrade is designed to ensure dependable, step-free access and a better experience for all passengers, especially those with reduced mobility.
Sevenoaks station will remain open throughout the works, but step-free access will be restricted while the lift for platforms 1 and 2 is replaced. Passengers are advised to plan ahead.
Alternative arrangements are available for those needing extra assistance. Southeastern customers who require step-free access can use Tonbridge station and ask station staff to arrange a taxi between Tonbridge and Sevenoaks, or travel to Tonbridge by train from platform 3. Passengers can also contact the assisted travel teams at Southeastern and Thameslink for support.
For London-bound Southeastern services towards Orpington, Lewisham, London Bridge, London Waterloo East and London Charing Cross, step-free access will not be available from Sevenoaks during this phase. Thameslink services to London Blackfriars via Swanley, Bromley South, Peckham Rye and Elephant & Castle remain accessible.
Services away from London are unaffected. The lift on platforms 3 and 4 will stay in service and the timetable from Sevenoaks is unchanged.
