Perth And Kinross Adds £100,000 To Property Flood Resilience Grants

Extra funding has been allocated to meet strong demand, lifting the total pot to £250,000 and offering up to £5,000 per property to boost flood protection.

Perth and Kinross Council has injected a further £100,000 into its Property Flood Resilience Grant Scheme following an overwhelming response from residents and businesses.

The additional funding increases the scheme’s value to £250,000, enabling more homeowners and business owners to apply for grants of up to £5,000 to help safeguard buildings against flooding.

The Climate Change and Sustainability Committee approved the launch of the scheme on 27 May 2026 as part of a broader programme of flood resilience measures.

Since then, 44 applications have been received. An amendment from Council leader Councillor Eric Drysdale seeking an extra £100,000 for the scheme was agreed by the Finance and Resources Committee on Wednesday (24 June 2026).

Developed to promote a proactive, risk-based approach to flood risk, the scheme follows more than 1,000 flooding incidents affecting properties, businesses and roads over the past four years.

The fund helps property owners take practical, property-level steps to adapt and increase resilience to flooding.

Eligible applicants can secure support for Property Flood Resilience (PFR) measures that reduce the chances of water entering buildings, limit damage and speed up recovery after flooding.

Applicants will work with the Council to identify the most suitable measures for their property, with assessments supported by organisations such as the Scottish Flood Forum to ensure solutions are tailored to individual risk and meet appropriate standards.

Initially established as a £150,000 initiative through the Council’s Budget, the scheme is designed to strengthen local resilience alongside existing community support and wider flood management work. By targeting individual properties, it complements larger infrastructure projects and community resilience initiatives.

Perth and Kinross Council leader Councillor Eric Drysdale said: "The response to this scheme has been extremely strong, and it is clear that many people and businesses across Perth and Kinross are looking for ways to better protect their homes and businesses from flooding.

"With 44 applications received in just four weeks, we have taken the decision to increase the funding available so we can support more people to take practical steps to reduce their flood risk.

"We know flooding can have a serious impact on people's lives, and this additional investment will help more residents and businesses become more resilient and better prepared for the future."
