Mac Mic Land Appoints New CEO Amid Expansion Strategy

Mac Mic Land has announced the appointment of Steve Clegg as its new Chief Executive Officer as the company unveils plans to significantly expand its UK portfolio.

The strategic land firm intends to grow its holdings from 62 to 85 sites over the next half-year, a move that could facilitate the delivery of more than 35,000 homes.

While the company's current operations are focused on Scotland's Central Belt and the South West and South East of England, the new strategy targets growth in the Midlands and the North West. The business also plans to bolster its activity within its existing regions.

Operating from bases in Glasgow, London, and Bristol, the company is expanding its workforce to support this trajectory. Recent additions include Mr Clegg and John-Rhys Davies, who joins as Planning Manager for the South West, with further recruitment expected.

Steve Clegg, who joins the executive board alongside fourth-generation Mickel family members Andrew and Ross Mickel, said: "As Mac Mic Land steps into a new era, we have ambitious plans for growth across the North, Midlands and East of England, as well as growing our existing portfolio across the UK."

He continued: "We continue to look at areas with growing populations and good employment prospects, places where people need quality, well-designed homes to provide, well-connected and sustainable communities. We are committed to doing it in the right way, balancing commercial success with purposeful placemaking and creating a lasting legacy that landowners can be proud of."

Mr Clegg, a former real estate banker and consultant, has worked with the firm since 2025. He succeeds David Gaffney, who served as interim CEO from October 2025 and will remain on the board as a Senior Advisor.

Commenting on his new role, Mr Clegg added: "With the backing of more than 100 years of experience of the Mactaggart and Mickel brand, I am truly excited about this opportunity and I look forward to building on the successes the team has already achieved."

Senior Director Andrew Mickel welcomed the new appointments, stating: "The evolution of the business sees our continued focus on providing landowners with guidance, certainty, and a clear route to maximising the value of their land. We've a genuine desire to do things the right way and the capital to help us to grow."

He further noted: "Steve brings a wealth of experience to Mac Mic Land, as a senior leader and with decades of knowledge of the UK real estate and residential landscape. We are delighted to welcome Steve and John-Rhys to the team."

To coincide with this new phase of growth, Mac Mic Land has launched a refreshed brand identity and website, designed to establish a distinct presence while honouring its Mactaggart & Mickel heritage.
