Owners of traditional properties within the Forres Conservation Area are being invited to register their interest in a funded Building Health Check as part of the Forres Conservation and Heritage Scheme (FCHS).
The Building Health Check assesses external repair needs such as roofs, stonework, traditional windows and doors, skylights and rainwater goods, and provides a costed breakdown of recommended works. Depending on the value and nature of the repairs, owners may then be eligible to apply for a grant covering up to 50% of the cost of the works.
This offer applies only to traditionally built properties located inside the designated Forres Conservation Area; modern or non‑traditional buildings are not eligible. Owners and occupiers will receive a letter containing a map of the conservation boundary and instructions on how to express their interest.
Those wishing to take part should email [email protected] by Tuesday 31 March 2026, including their name, address, contact number and email; whether ownership is sole or shared; any relevant details on the building's current condition; and confirmation that match funding is available for any potential grant‑supported repairs.
As both surveys and grants are limited, properties will be shortlisted following an assessment process. If selected, an appointed surveyor will carry out the Building Health Check, and guidance will be provided to help owners through the subsequent grant application stage.
Moray Council Leader, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said: "This scheme is a fantastic opportunity for owners of traditional buildings in the Forres Conservation Area to get expert advice and support with essential repairs. By investing in our historic town centre, we not only protect its character and heritage, but also help create a more vibrant and attractive place for residents, businesses, and visitors alike. I would encourage all eligible property owners to take advantage of this offer and note their interest before the deadline."
George Alexander, Chair of the Forres Conservation and Heritage Scheme Partnership Group, added: "This is a real opportunity for current building owners to kick start their involvement with the scheme and wider regeneration of Forres town centre. We'd be particularly delighted to see interest from any owners who may not have had the opportunity to engage with us yet."
