East Ayrshire Council has opened Wallace Court, an assisted living development on Kilmarnock Road in Mauchline, at a ceremony led by Councillor Jim McMahon, spokesperson for Housing, Transport and Communities.
Delivered for the East Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership, the scheme is named after two local Wallaces: the Wallace family, who previously ran a market garden on the site, and Margaret Wallace, a former MSP and Community Centre volunteer.
Wallace Court provides 17 assisted living flats, three wheelchair-accessible bungalows and an onsite staff base to support residents' independence and care within the community.
Designed by MAST Architects and built by CCG (Scotland), the project aligns with a series of award-winning developments across East Ayrshire that have seen Arc-Tech (Scotland) provide building services support over nearly a decade.
Arc-Tech (Scotland) said its in-house Renewables and Sprinklers divisions have been deployed across a dozen projects in the area, contributing to more than 300 affordable homes, including three designed to an operational net zero carbon ('net zero ready') standard.
Councillor McMahon was joined at the opening by Council Leader Councillor Douglas Reid, Provost Claire Leitch, Councillors Alyson Simmons, William Lennox and Linda Mabon; Margaret Wallace; and Wallace Court residents Gordon and Elizabeth.
Councillor Jim McMahon said: "It was a great honour to officially open Wallace Court by unveiling a plaque.
"Wallace Court assisted living development and bungalows enable residents to live independently and safely within the local community, with support from health and social care services, in an environment that promotes social interaction.
"The development was informed by collaborative working between the council's Housing Service and East Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership and has been genuinely life-changing for the people who live there."
