Fife Council has announced a series of public engagement events following the confirmation of £20 million in funding from the UK Government's Growth Mission Fund.
The investment, secured in the Autumn Budget, is designated to accelerate the regeneration of Kirkcaldy's town centre and coastal areas.
The council recently submitted formal proposals to the UK Government outlining a strategy to transform the waterfront. Central to this vision is the construction of a new multi-use building designed to stimulate local economic growth. The first phase of this work is already moving forward, with the contract now live on the Public Contract Scotland portal.
Key elements of the current proposal include:
• Connecting the City: Demolishing derelict structures to create a seamless link between the High Street and the sea.
• Adam Smith Growth Hub: Establishing a vibrant centre for innovation, creativity, and heritage, inspired by the legacy of Kirkcaldy's most famous son.
• Economic Modernisation: Replacing outdated buildings with modern spaces for local businesses and community activities.
The plans have been shaped by feedback from public consultations led by Melanie Ward MP and Fife Council, which highlighted a strong local desire for a more attractive waterfront and a welcoming, accessible town centre.
Public Drop-in Sessions Community members are encouraged to attend sessions at the Old Kirk, Kirk Wynd (KY1 1EN) to view the plans and speak with council officers:
• Wednesday 4 February: 2:30pm – 5:00pm
• Thursday 5 February: 5:30pm – 8:00pm
Ken Gourlay, Chief Executive of Fife Council, emphasised the long-term nature of the project: "This is a transformative opportunity for Kirkcaldy and the first step in regenerating the town centre. Although it will take time, we're excited to deliver something new for – and with – residents."
Council Leader David Ross added that this funding is part of a wider, connected plan: "Regeneration isn't about one site or one pot of money, but a long-term, connected plan for Kirkcaldy and nearby communities. The Growth Mission funding will help us improve town centre spaces where communities meet, work, trade, get creative and try new things."
Funding for the projects is expected to become available in the new financial year, starting April 2026. Further opportunities for the community to influence the development will continue throughout the year.
