Fife Council has added 20 new properties to its affordable housing stock this week, following the completion of the second phase of a major development in Kennoway.
Delivered in partnership with Robertson Construction Eastern, the project has transformed the site of the former primary school into a modern residential community.
The handover marks the final milestone for the Langside Crescent site, which now provides a total of 63 council houses. The first phase, consisting of 43 homes, was completed in early 2025. This latest addition brings the project to full capacity, supported by £5.255 million in grant funding from the Scottish Government's Affordable Housing Supply Programme.
The new development offers a diverse housing mix to meet specific local needs, including:
• Detached and semi-detached family homes.
• Amenity bungalows for older residents.
• Wheelchair-accessible bungalows.
All properties have been built to high energy-efficiency standards, featuring high-performance insulation, modern heating systems, and solar PV panels. Sprinkler systems have also been installed as standard throughout the development.
Councillor Judy Hamilton, Fife Council's Housing Spokesperson, commented: "This handover is another important milestone in our commitment to tackling the housing emergency in Fife. These new houses will provide families and individuals with safe, warm, and energy-efficient places to live, helping to improve health and wellbeing. Every new council house makes a real difference to people's lives and strengthens our communities."
Beyond providing homes, the contract has delivered significant economic benefits to the region. Approximately 272 local people (FTE) were employed during construction, and over £10 million was spent with local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Gordon Milne, Regional Managing Director at Robertson Construction Eastern, added: "Reaching this milestone in Kennoway marks another positive step in a long-standing working relationship with Fife Council. It demonstrates how a collaborative approach can support the council's response to the housing emergency while also supporting the local economy."
This project is the second of seven developments Robertson is contracted to deliver for Fife Council. As part of the community legacy, the developer also provided donations to local schools and charities throughout the construction period.
