Comrie is celebrating the completion of a £227,000 upgrade to Legion Park, driven by local residents.

The initiative was spearheaded by resident Terri Bacon and the Friends of Legion Park, working in partnership with Perth and Kinross Council's Community Greenspace team.

Over the past three years, they collaborated with the community to redesign the play area and to develop a masterplan for wider park improvements.

The masterplan sets out a more inclusive and welcoming park, proposing an extended path network, additional seating and cycle racks, upgraded football facilities, and a pavilion structure for outdoor learning and community events. The aim is to make the space easier to access and more enjoyable for all ages, while encouraging active lifestyles and community gatherings.

A public consultation held in summer 2024 attracted 94 responses through the Council's consultation hub, alongside feedback via other channels. The response was overwhelmingly positive, identifying priorities such as sensory and inclusive play equipment, improved accessibility and more seating. Ideas to boost biodiversity and sustainability included tree planting and grass management aligned to the Council's Grow Wild scheme, which would enhance the park's welcome, reduce maintenance and support local wildlife.

Phase one of the masterplan, valued at £227,000, began in August 2025 and is now complete thanks to a combination of the Council's capital and revenue play park budgets, Scottish Government funding, and money raised by the Friends of Legion Park. The community group has also secured additional funding to deliver further improvements.

I was delighted £50,000 funding was granted in the 2023 budget to help support their fundraising and get the project off the ground, the group continued to fundraise to achieve their goal to allow the project to proceed."

The completed works mark a significant step towards creating a vibrant, inclusive and sustainable park for Comrie, with more enhancements to follow.
