Balfour Beatty Opens New 70-Job Depot In Kirriemuir

Balfour Beatty, a key contractor for SSEN Transmission, has officially opened a new operational depot in Kirriemuir, Angus, reinforcing the commitment to local supply chain collaboration and economic growth in the region.

Located in Logie Industrial Park, the new facility is being leased in partnership with local small business Delson Contracts Ltd. Once fully operational, the site is expected to support up to 70 local jobs in a mix of office-based and on-site project delivery roles.

The facility currently spans 2.5 acres but is planned to expand to a significant 16-acre site as SSEN Transmission’s major investment programme ramps up. The depot provides essential office space, storage, and laydown areas for materials required for infrastructure projects that are critical to connecting renewable energy and advancing Scotland’s net-zero ambitions.

Caryn Jack, SSEN Transmission’s Programme Director, stated: "The opening of this new depot in Kirriemuir represents another step forward for our electricity transmission investment programme. By working in partnership with Balfour Beatty and local businesses like Delson Contracts Ltd, we’re not only enabling the delivery of critical electricity infrastructure but also creating long-term opportunities that benefit the Angus community."

Tony Wilson, Managing Director of Balfour Beatty’s Power Transmission & Distribution business, said the facility "strengthens our ability to deliver critical electricity infrastructure but will also create meaningful employment opportunities for the local community."

The Kirriemuir depot is part of a wider infrastructure and supply chain expansion designed to unlock renewable energy potential and strengthen the transmission network across Scotland and the UK. The depot is expected to remain operational until at least 2031, pending final planning determinations.
