Work to transform the former Motherwell Town Hall into 20 modern, affordable flats is gathering pace, promising to breathe new life into the historic landmark.

Council Leader Jim Logue and Depute Leader Louise Roarty recently visited the site with James Stevenson, Housing Development Manager (NLC), and Jordan Price, Project Manager (NLC), to see the latest progress first-hand.

The initial internal strip-out is close to completion, and the rear section—formerly the Zone Main Hall—has been carefully demolished. The programme is being delivered with precision to safeguard the building's original architectural features. Stone from the dismantled sections is being stored for reuse, allowing repairs to the outer wings to be made using materials taken from the site itself.

Attention now turns to the internal fit-out, which will be carried out in three planned phases. Preserving the building's heritage remains a priority, ensuring its character is retained as it is adapted into high-quality homes for local residents.

Councillor Logue said: "Excellent progress is being made on site to transform this iconic derelict building into homes for local people. The work is being carried out in various phases to ensure the retention of the architectural features that make the building so instantly recognisable.

"I look forward to watching the development progress to completion, with more new homes being delivered as part of our ambitious new supply programme."
