Galileo Empower has been granted planning permission (subject to conditions) for the proposed Craighead Wind Farm in Kinross-shire, located north of Carnbo.
The decision was made following an appeal to the Scottish Government Reporter in June 2025, after non-determination by Perth and Kinross Council.
The project will consist of eight turbines (three up to 180m and five up to 200m in blade tip height) and have an operational lifetime of 40 years. With a generating capacity of 49.6 megawatts (MW), the wind farm could power up to 48,200 homes annually with clean, zero-carbon electricity. It is also projected to save up to 31,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, equivalent to taking up to 22,240 cars off the road.
Craighead Wind Farm is projected to deliver significant economic benefits to the local and Scottish economies:
• Local Investment: Up to £9.1 million is anticipated to be spent within the local economy across the construction and operational phases.
• National Investment: A total of £33.7 million is expected to be spent within the overall Scottish economy.
• Job Creation: Up to 66 jobs will be created across Perth and Kinross.
• Business Rates: An estimated £24 million in business rates will be contributed to local services over the wind farm's operational lifetime.
• Community Fund: A community wealth fund of around £10 million will provide funding for local initiatives.
Jason Morin, Senior Project Manager for Galileo Empower, welcomed the decision: "This decision marks a significant step forward in Scotland's renewable energy journey, and we're committed to ensuring that local communities and businesses share directly in the economic opportunities this project will create."
The development will also implement an ambitious Biodiversity Enhancement Management Plan (BEMP) to deliver significant biodiversity improvements.
