A significant new construction project is set to revitalise a historic area of Glasgow after the City Council approved plans to convert the derelict B-listed former Tureen Street School into affordable housing.
Thenue Housing Association lodged the plans to transform the building, which has stood empty for the past 18 years, into a total of 42 one, two, and three-bedroom flats.
The complex conversion scheme, designed by John Gilbert Architects, is scheduled to be delivered by contractor CCG (Scotland). The construction works will involve a sensitive yet challenging process of partial demolition while ensuring the façade retention of the historic structure. Specifically, the primary façades located on Millroad Drive and Millroad Street will be preserved, alongside the retention of the original Janitor’s House.
This development is viewed as a critical step in preserving a key piece of Glasgow’s built heritage while simultaneously addressing the pressing need for affordable homes in the city. The necessary pre-construction work is expected to be completed in the coming months, with construction on site currently scheduled to begin in 2026.
