North Lanarkshire Council has confirmed that construction will soon commence on the redevelopment of the Watersports Centre at Strathclyde Country Park.

The facility is scheduled to close for works on Sunday, 19 October 2025, immediately following the October school holidays. The building is expected to reopen as 'Strathshore' in Spring 2027.

Construction Focus: Sustainability and Modernisation

The core of the construction project is to transform the old building into a highly energy-efficient facility, with a focus on sustainability. The refurbished 'Strathshore' will be heated using renewable technology, drastically reducing its operational cost and carbon footprint, giving the older building a "fresh, sustainable future," according to Councillor Helen Loughran, Convener of the Environment and Climate Change Committee.

The completed redevelopment will deliver a range of improved, modern facilities for both park visitors and the community:

• New Commercial Space: Dedicated space for small businesses to hire.

• Visitor Amenities: A new ground-floor café and a seating terrace.

• Accessibility: Significantly improved facilities to enhance accessibility.

• Core Services: A new base for the Countryside Ranger Service and space for outdoor education.

• Recreational Facilities: Refreshed changing rooms and continued support for existing water sports and bike hire.

During the construction phase (from Monday, 20 October 2025), organised use of the loch will continue on a limited basis, and public toilets will be available in Events Car Park 1.
