BAM UK & Ireland and the Eden Project have launched a "pioneering collaboration" aimed at making nature recovery a central focus of the built environment.

The new partnership marks a first for both organisations and seeks to inspire industry-wide change across the construction sector.

The three-year, purpose-driven collaboration will focus on tangible action across three key pillars: Educate, Act, and Influence, with the ultimate goal of reimagining the built environment as a space where nature is "celebrated, not sacrificed."

Initially, BAM will concentrate on projects where it can maximise health, wellbeing, and biodiversity outcomes for clients and staff, including health and education projects and BAM's own estate.

The aim is to integrate nature by design through:

• Creating healing gardens and green spaces to support patient recovery.

• Establishing outdoor learning environments.

• Creating biodiverse spaces for children and communities.

BAM also plans to enhance its own offices, depots, and sites with nature-rich breakout spaces to improve the daily work experience for colleagues.

John Wilkinson, COO of BAM UK & Ireland, stated that the construction industry has played a role in the devastating decline of animal populations (which have dropped by 73% since the early 1970s). He added: "We’ve chosen to take a stand, and to do it alongside the Eden Project, to inspire and embed change across the built environment."
