North Lanarkshire Council has been recognised at the 2025 Herald Property Awards for Scotland, winning Best Renovation and Conversion for its transformation of the former YMCA building in Motherwell.

The project saw the once-derelict building revitalised into six modern apartments, forming part of a larger development of 48 new homes on Brandon Street. Delivered in partnership with CCG (Scotland) Ltd and Coltart Earley Architecture, and supported by the Scottish Government, the homes combine contemporary design with renewable technologies.

Councillor Michael McPake, Convener of Housing, said: "This is an outstanding achievement and fantastic recognition for everyone involved. What was once a derelict site has been completely transformed into high-quality homes that people are proud to live in. It shows the difference we can make by investing in our town centres, breathing new life into old buildings while creating modern, energy-efficient homes for our tenants.

"I'm incredibly proud of this project and the wider progress we're making with our new build programme, delivering homes, creating jobs and boosting local communities."
