East Lothian Council will be asked to make a "preliminary decision" on the Musselburgh Flood Protection Scheme at a full council meeting on Tuesday, 30 September.

Elected members will consider all "valid objections" and relevant information to determine how the scheme will proceed.

An outline design for the project, which aims to reduce flood risk while retaining the town’s historic character and natural environment, was approved by councillors in January 2024. The design, which has been developed over a number of years, has incorporated extensive community feedback and has since been subject to a formal, statutory consultation process.

In line with the Flood Risk Management (Scotland) Act 2009, the council can either confirm the proposed scheme without modification, confirm it with modifications, or reject it entirely.

Council officers are preparing a report with all relevant information, which will be published and made available publicly ahead of the meeting. Interested members of the public can watch the meeting online via the council’s live webcast.
