Work has started on a new £9.3 million social housing development on the site of a former car park in Glasgow.
The project, which is being built by CCG (Scotland) for Wheatley Homes, will provide 34 homes for social rent and two commercial units in the Spoutmouth area of the Gallowgate.
Designed by John Gilbert Architects, the new six-storey block of flats will feature energy-saving measures to keep energy bills low, including air-source heat pump systems. All of the flats in the development will have two bedrooms, and three will be wheelchair adaptable. The new homes will be owned and managed by Wheatley Homes Glasgow.
The development, which is part-funded by Glasgow City Council, is the latest new-build project to be carried out by Wheatley and CCG. The two companies have a further two developments with a combined 145 homes under construction across the Glasgow city region.
Councillor Ruairi Kelly, Convener for Housing and Development at Glasgow City Council, said it is "really encouraging to see work beginning on this new development." He added that not only will the homes meet the needs of a range of people and families, but the development will also "offer space for local businesses and bring a vacant brownfield site back to productive use."
CCG (Scotland) Managing Director David Wylie said the company is proud to "once again work in partnership with Wheatley and Glasgow City Council to support the delivery of much-needed affordable homes in the city."
