Works are scheduled to begin shortly at the Palace Theatre in Kilmarnock, necessitating a number of access changes to facilitate a significant redevelopment project.
The refurbishment will transform the existing facilities into a state-of-the-art regional concert hall and theatre, with completion anticipated in early 2028.
From Monday, 4 August 2025, graphic hoardings will be installed around the site perimeter, and the underpass from London Road to the Burns Mall Shopping Centre will be closed as cleaning and repair works get underway. East Ayrshire Council is considering proposals for new steps and an accessible ramp to the rear entrance of the Burns Mall.
To ensure public and contractor safety, the westbound side of the road and footway directly in front of the Palace Theatre will be closed for the duration of the project, with temporary traffic lights managing local traffic flow.
Sturrock Street East Car Park, immediately adjacent to the construction site, will also temporarily close from 4 August to accommodate site offices, welfare facilities, and provide controlled site access. This car park will remain closed for the duration of the works. Motorists are advised to use Titchfield Street Car Park, a short distance away, which operates under the same tariff.
East Ayrshire Council and East Ayrshire Leisure Trust will work closely with the appointed contractor, McLaughlin & Harvey, to minimise disruption during the works.
