Deeside Timberframe's recently expanded Throsk manufacturing facility has drawn significant political attention, with MP Chris Kane and MSP Alex Rowley both undertaking visits to discuss the pivotal role of offsite timber frame construction in addressing the UK housing crisis. These visits follow Deeside Timberframe’s multimillion-pound investment programme, which has substantially scaled up its production capacity for high-quality, energy-efficient homes.
The tours showcased how the company is actively supporting the rapid delivery of both public and private housing, demonstrating how recent investments have boosted capacity to meet growing demand.
Chris Kane MP emphasised the urgency of increasing housing supply, stating: "We urgently need to build more homes— the UK Government has set an ambitious target of 1.5 million homes over the course of this Parliament, and it is companies like Deeside Timberframe that will be vital in achieving it." He praised Deeside’s investment and automation, suggesting it sets a precedent for how industry can lead. Kane also questioned whether Deeside could handle a 10% uplift in demand from England, to which Managing Director David Crawford affirmed their readiness, citing the company's enhanced manufacturing capacity and automated lines.
Alex Rowley MSP, who visited earlier in the month, echoed the sentiment, highlighting the potential of modernised construction and automation. Discussions also focused on how factory-based offsite construction can alleviate the ongoing labour and skills shortage in the sector by requiring fewer on-site trades and opening new opportunities in digital design, precision engineering, and apprenticeships.
With increasing pressure to meet ambitious housing targets and Net Zero commitments, Deeside Timberframe advocates for timber frame as a central solution. David Crawford reiterated, "Scotland and England are facing the same challenge. We need to build faster, smarter and greener. Timber frame is not only a low-carbon solution—it's a high-capacity one too."
The successive visits by both an MSP and an MP underscore growing political recognition of timber frame’s potential as a key enabler for housing delivery and environmental progress. With its expanded capacity and entry into the English market, Deeside Timberframe is poised to play a central role in delivering sustainable homes across the UK.
