Public Urged To Help Shape Future Of River South Esk Catchment

A vital public consultation has been launched, urging anyone with an interest in the River South Esk catchment to help shape its future.

The River South Esk, a significant natural asset for local communities, businesses, and tourism in Angus, provides essential resources such as drinking water, irrigation for agriculture, and supports diverse wildlife habitats, underpinning a range of recreational activities including angling.

However, the catchment faces ongoing challenges from climate change, erosion, flooding, drought, pollution, and disconnected habitats, all of which can diminish the overall health of the river system.

The River South Esk Catchment Partnership, which has a strong track record of successful projects under its initial management plan, is now developing its second comprehensive strategy for the period 2026 to 2036. This new plan aims to further improve the catchment's health and sustainably guide community and economic activity.

The partnership is encouraging broad participation in the consultation, asking individuals to:

• Share what aspects of the catchment are most important to them.

• Identify environmental, economic, or social issues they have observed.

• Propose ideas for improving specific areas within the catchment.

To get involved, interested parties can visit the online consultation portal, "Help shape the River South Esk Catchment Management Plan 2026 – 2036," and use an interactive map tool to leave location-specific comments.

This phase of the public consultation will close at 17:00 on Friday, 5 September 2025. Updates on the project can be received by subscribing to email notifications via the project page.
